Not too much longer now until it’s National Clay Week 2017! For our final blog countdown, we’re going to go back through what’s happening each day and give some sneak peeks at the great content we have been working on together. Up first, Monday’s Using Handmade project, The Crafted Dish, spearheaded by Carole Epp of Musing About Mud. Sixty two Canadian ceramicists have handed over their favorite recipes, prepared in handmade dishes, alongside the stories behind them and wonderful photographs. The book was juried by Julia and Yolande Krueger, Christopher Reid Flock, and Carole Epp. And yes, there is maple involved. Here’s one to whet your appetites:
Canadian Maple Muffins by Johann Munro
1/4 CUP BUTTER
1/2 CUP SUGAR
1 TSP SALT
1 1/4 CUP ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
2 TSP BAKING POWDER
3/4 CUP ROLLED OATS
1/2 CUP MILK
1/2 CUP MAPLE SYRUP
1 TBSP BUTTER
1/2 CUP ICING SUGAR
1 TBSP MAPLE SYRUP
SOFTEN BUTTER, BLEND IN SUGAR AND SALT.
ADD DRY INGREDIENTS AND BLEND WITH PASTRY CUTTER UNTIL CRUMBLY. MIX IN OATS.
BLEND MILK AND SYRUP TOGETHER AND POUR OVER DRY INGREDIENTS STIRRING ONLY TO MOISTEN.
BAKE 350 DEGREES FOR 20 MINUTES.
SPREAD GLAZE OVER WHEN SLIGHTLY COOLED.
